November 06, 2019 | Field Hockey
GREENSBORO, N.C. – After a record-setting season, Sky Caron, Fusine Govaert and Margo Carlin of the No. 9 Boston College field hockey team earn All-ACC honors, while Head Coach Kelly Doton has been named ACC Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference Wednesday.
Â
This is the first time since 2007 BC has had two members of the All-ACC first team.
Â
Margo Carlin headlined the group, earning ACC Freshman of the Year and All-ACC first team honors, posting 17 goals and five assists for 39 points this year. Carlin is having one of the best seasons in BC field hockey history, totaling the eighth-most goals and eighth-most points in a single season at Harvard. The Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania native is competing with some of the best in the nation, where she's fourth in division one with 1.00 goals per game and tied for fifth in the country in points.
Â
Govaert is having a career year with career-highs in goals (7), assists (6) and points (20) for BC on her way to All-ACC first team honors. The preseason All-ACC selection has scored four game-winning goals this season, most notably the lone goal in BC's 1-0 win over then-No. 4 Duke to give the Eagles their most ACC wins in program history.
Â
Caron has been one of the more important pieces of BC's defense this season, starting all 17 games for the Eagles. Caron has four goals and three assists this season for 11 points, while also scoring on two strokes.
Â
Doton helped lead the Eagles to an 11-6 season with a 4-2 ACC record. The four ACC wins are the most by BC since joining the conference in 2005. The Eagles opened the season with a 4-5 record before winning seven of eight games to close the season. BC's record earned them the second seed in the ACC Championships, the highest in program history. Doton is the first BC field hockey coach of the year since Sherren Granese won the BIG EAST Coach of the Year in 1998.
Â
BC opens the ACC Field Hockey Championships at the Newton Field Hockey Complex on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 2:30 p.m. against Wake Forest, live on ACC Network.
