November 10, 2019 | Field Hockey
INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 9 Boston College field hockey team is heading to Louisville, Kentucky for the first round of the NCAA Tournament where the Eagles will play Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 15.
The other game in BC's region are Michigan and host Louisville.
BC has had a record-setting, winning four ACC games for the first time since joining the conference. The Eagles also won multiple ACC Tournament games this year and advanced to their first ACC Championship game in program history.
Closing out the season as one of the hottest teams in the country, BC has posted a 9-2 record since the beginning of October and only losing to No. 1 UNC twice.
The Eagles are led offensively by Margo Carlin, who had a season stat line of 17-6-40, which earned her All-ACC first team honors and being named ACC Freshman of the Year.
Fusine Govaert and Sky Caron also earned All-ACC honors, being named to the first and second teams, respectively.
Govaert has set career-highs in points (23), goals (8) and assists (7), while having five game-winning goals. The Rye, N.Y. native scored the game-winning goal in the final regular season game against Duke and in the ACC semifinal against Virginia in overtime.
In goal, Sarah Dwyer has been one of the best in the nation, amassing a 9-3 record in 12 starts. Dwyer has a 0.88 GAA, which is good for second in the country, and a 0.800 save percentage, which is fifth in the NCAA. The senior captain has an ACC-best eight shutouts this season.
Following BC's record regular season, head coach Kelly Doton was named ACC Coach of the Year, which was the first time in program history and the second conference coach of the year awardee.
