New Hampshire Stuns 15th-Ranked Eagles 1-0 in Overtime
November 01, 2019 | Men's Hockey
DURHAM, N.H. – Angus Crookshank tipped a point shot inside the left post midway through overtime to lift New Hampshire over 15th-ranked Boston College 1-0 on Friday night at the Whittemore Center.
The Eagles fell to 2-4-0 (0-2-0 HEA) following their fourth straight defeat, while the Wildcats moved to 3-2-1 (2-1-0 HEA).
BC had 55 total attempts on goal and a 28-24 shots on goal edge but couldn't find a way to beat Mike Robinson, who collected a 28-save shutout for UNH. Rookie Spencer Knight stopped 23 of 24 shots at the other end.
The Eagles dominated the play in the opening 20 minutes with a 10-4 shots on goal advantage. Mike Hardman nearly gave BC the lead off a won faceoff but missed the short side post on a rebound from Jack McBain's effort.
Both teams had a pair of looks on the power play in the second period but neither could cash in. Midway through the period, Michael Karow sprung Matt Boldy into the offensive zone, but the rookie's wrister was steered aside by the blocker of Robinson.
Alex Newhook had a clean look from the high slot in the closing seconds of the frame but his wrist shot sailed past the left post.
Robinson made his best save of the night in the early stages of the third, robbing defenseman Connor Moore on a back door one-timer as he sprawled laterally. Moore later flipped the puck to the netfront as it squirted behind Robinson only to trickle inches wide left.
David Cotton located a rebound on his forehand near the left post with just over a minute remaining in regulation, but the puck wouldn't settle for the senior captain.
Boston College won the faceoff battle 34-27.
