Long Competes at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Boston College junior Yufei Long became just the second Eagle in school history to compete in the main draw of the ITA Women's All-American Championships this week in Oklahoma.Â
In her opening match, which was pushed back a day due to rain, Long fell to No. 15 overall seed Anna Turati of Texas 6-1, 6-0 on Thursday morning. Later in the day, she played a tight match against Illinois' Asuka Kawai in the consolation draw but lost by a score of 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-1.
"Yufei did an awesome job representing herself and Boston College playing in the All-American Championships main draw. I'm very proud of her," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "She competed at such a high level among the nation's most elite players. She will learn from this experience and become and even stronger player."
Turati (17) and Kawai (20) are both currently ranked among the top-20 singles players in the nation by the ITA. Long entered the tournament at No. 45.Â
"Yufei's first match was outside with very windy and tough conditions," Bentley added. "A big factor was not capitalizing on the no ad points where she was 1-5. The second match was a close, long three-set match played indoors due to rain and she ran out of gas at the end."
As a team, the Eagles will next compete in the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Army on Oct. 17-22 at West Point.
