Long and Wilcox Reach Round of 16 at ITA Regionals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Yufei Long and Kylie Wilcox both reached the Round of 16 at the 2019 ITA Northeast Regional Championships for Boston College women's tennis this past weekend at Army.

Long earned a straight set victory over Yale's Jessie Gong (6-3, 6-2) before defeating Natasha Gonzalez of Harvard in a tight three-setter 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-5. The junior eventually dropped a 6-1, 7-5 result to Melissa Sakar of Columbia and missed out on the quarterfinal.

Wilcox was forced to retire from her Round of 16 match against Brown's Brittany Lau in the second set due to injury. The senior captain had previously downed Yale's Rhea Shrivastava (7-6 (3), 6-2) and UMass' Janja Kovacevic (7-6, 7-6) in straight sets.

As the No. 2 seed in the doubles competition, Long and Wilcox advanced past teams from LIU Brooklyn (8-5) and Providence (8-5) before Wilcox was forced to withdraw from the Round of 16 match against Yale.

Hailey Wilcox and Dasha Possokhova also reached the Round of 16 before falling to Princeton 8-4. Natasha Irani and Laura Lopez coasted past Penn 8-2 but fell to a team from Boston University 8-3 in the second round.

In singles play, Irani beat Racquel Lyn of Dartmouth 6-4, 6-0 but lost to No. 1 overall seed Samantha Martinelli of Yale 6-3, 6-3 in the Round of 32. Possokhova fought back to advance past Quinnipiac's Kamilla Nella 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 but lost a three-set match to Drexel's Salma Ziouti in round two.

Hailey Wilcox and Lopez both fell in the opening round of the singles bracket to players from Buffalo and UMass.
BC will compete at the Brown Invitational in Providence and the Dick Vitale Clay Court Invitational in Lakewood, Florida on the weekend of Nov. 1-3.
