Hockey East Names Megan Keller Player of the Week

Keller set single-season Hockey East scoring record by a defender over the weekend.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Hockey East announced Monday that Boston College women's hockey senior defenseman Megan Keller has been named the league's Player of the Week after she recorded one goal and four assists in BC's weekend sweep of Providence.

Keller set the Hockey East single-season points record for a defender with a three-point outing in the Eagles' 4-2 win at Kelley Rink on Friday. The Farmington Hills, Mich. native tied for the league lead and led all blue liners nationally in points on the weekend. She potted the game-winning goal in BC's win on Friday and added two assists to reach a 13-16-29 scoring line in conference play and break the record. On Saturday, Keller picked up two more assists in another 4-2 win for the Eagles. She finished a conference-best plus-6 on the weekend and also had three blocked shots and four shots on goal.

Keller now has 32 points on the season, which is tied for 10th in the country. She leads all defenders nationally in points (32), goals (14), assists (18), and points per game (1.28) and is tied for first in power-play goals (5) and game-winning goals (4). Overall, Keller is tied for first in power-play goals and is in the top 15 in the country in points, goals, assists, points per game, and power-play points.

The captain is averaging 1.31 points per game through her 26 games played this season. The last Division I blue liner to average at least 1.30 points per game through the first 26 games of a season was former BC standout Emily Pfalzer '15, who averaged 1.35 points per game in the first 26 games of the 2014-15 season.

Boston College will host Holy Cross on Friday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. before taking on Harvard on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the first round of the Beanpot.
