Fencing Wins The Northeast Championship
January 27, 2019 | Fencing
It was a successful weekend for the BC fencing team. Both the men's and women's teams won the Northeast Fencing Championship at Brown University on Saturday.
It is the fourth consecutive year the women's team won the title and the first title for the men's side since the conference started recording championships in 2010. The women's team shared the title with Brandeis in 2016 and Brown in 2018.
The women's team was led by their sabre squad as they posted an amazing 43-3 record on the day. Sophomore Crystal Chen was outstanding all day as she went 12-0. Epeeists Laura Boden was 12-2 in her weapon while Jamie Bang went 10-2.
Balance was the key to the men's success. The team posted one unblemished round in each meet – epee against Brandeis; foil vs. Tufts & Dartmouth and sabre vs. Vassar.
Freshman Thomas Junseo Park led the team with a 9-0 record, while junior Justin Herman went 9-2. Rookie Spencer Kuldell had a solid day with an 8-2 record.
The teams compete again next Sunday in the Eric Sollee invitational at MIT. The Eagles will battle Haverford, NJIT, Stevens Tech, Hunter and NYU.
