Eagles Place Five in Top-40 of Giant Slalom at UNH Carnival

FRANCONIA, N.H. – The Boston College ski team opened up the UNH Carnival on Friday at Cannon Mountain. Parker Biele (23rd) and Bobby Ryan (26th) led the Eagles in the giant slalom on day one of the carnival.

Biele, who was 18th in the GS last week at the St. Lawrence Carnival, skied a combined time of 2:21.08, which was eight seconds off the pace. Madeline Davis was the second-fastest BC finisher on the women's team with a time of 2:28.48 as she took 36th.

Captain Amanda Steffey (2:28.88) and Natalie Wetmore (2:32.49) gave Boston College four women's skiers in the top-40, while Dannica Ashnault posted a time of 2:34.22 for 41st overall.

Ryan's combined time of 2:13.53 was less than five seconds behind winner Drew Duffy from Dartmouth as he placed in the top-30. Fellow rookie Trent Gutstein finished just outside the top-40 in 42nd place (2:18.08), while Chris Bertram took 48th for the Eagles in a time of 2:19.84.

Day two of the carnival on Saturday (Jan. 19) features the slalom competition at Cannon Mountain beginning at 9 a.m.
