Makayla Dickens Named ACC Co-Rookie Of The Week
January 14, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Dickens leads Eagles to two road wins this past week.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College point guard Makayla Dickens was named ACC co-Rookie of the Week for her efforts as the Eagles went 2-0 on the road last week.
Â
A freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., Dickens averaged 11.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Eagles beat Wake Forest and Pittsburgh. It was the first time BC had two consecutive road wins since the 2014-15 season.
Â
Dickens scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in the 65-64 road win at Wake Forest on Thursday night. She had two big rebounds in the final minute, but none bigger than an offensive board with four seconds left in the game to preserve the win. Â
Â
It was her second consecutive double-double, as she tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds against NC State on Jan. 6.
Â
She was the first BC player to grab 16 or more rebounds in a game since Katie Zenevitch '14 did it vs. Mount St. Mary's in 2014. Dickens was also the first guard to grab 16 rebounds. She joins Zenevitch, as well as Carolyn Swords '11, Stefanie Murphy '11 and Kathrin Ress '07, who have all grabbed 16 rebounds in a game. Â
Â
Dickens is second on the team in scoring with an 11.5 points per game average. She also averages 5.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for the 13-4 Eagles.
Â
Boston College (13-4, 2-2) will host No. 22/23 Florida State (14-2, 2-1) on Thursday at Conte Forum (7 p.m.). The game will be broadcast online via ACC Network Extra.
