Biele Earns Top-20 Finish in Giant Slalom at St. Lawrence Carnival

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Boston College ski team closed out the St. Lawrence Carnival on Saturday with the giant slalom at Whiteface Mountain, which opened the 2019 EISA alpine season.

The BC women's team took seventh place in the giant slalom with three top-40 finishers. As a squad, the Eagles are 12th out of 17 schools at the competition with Nordic events scheduled for Sunday.Â

Sophomore Parker Biele was 15th after the first women's GS run before slipping back to 18th overall with a combined time of 2:24.38 to lead the team, 7.3 seconds behind winner Claire Thomas of Dartmouth. 18th matched her top career EISA finish, which she earned at last year's UVM Carnival in Stowe.Â

Senior Amanda Steffey clocked a time of 2:29.29 for 34th place, while Madeline Davis (2:30.55) gave the Eagles three racers in the top-40. Dannica Ashnault rounded out the BC women who finished as she posted a time of 2:41.50 for 46th overall.

Rookie Bobby Ryan was the top men's finisher on the day, placing 23rd from bib 53 with his combined time of 2:15.40. Senior Aaron Taylor had the 26th-best time in run 2 and earned 30th overall in a time of 2:16.73.

Trent Gutstein and Chris Bertram did not qualify for their second runs in the GS.

Boston College travels to the UNH Carnival next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 18-19) at Mittersill Alpine Resort.
