After a standout week, the junior goalkeeper has reigned in an NFHCA Honorable Mention
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer has earned a National Field Hockey Coaches' Association Weekly Honorable Mention after a standout performance over the Eagles' past three games. The Eagles played three games within six days, besting Northeastern, No. 10 Virginia, and New Hampshire. Dwyer allowed just one goal over the three games
Dwyer started each match, earning a 2-0 shutout vs. Virginia and splitting a 6-0 shutout over New Hampshire with freshman Jonna Kennedy after being relieved after 26:36 of play. She played the full 70:00 regulation at Northeastern and vs. Virginia.Â
The junior's week also earned her her second ACC Defensive Player of the Week award this season. She first received the award following the Eagles' home-opener weekend, which saw a 4-3 double overtime win vs. Wake Forest and a 1-0 shutout over Albany. Dwyer is the first Boston College field hockey player to receive an ACC Weekly award twice in the same season since joining the conference in 2005.
The Eagles have a week-long break before heading to Fairfield for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 30. They are currently 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, second behind undefeated North Carolina.
