Dwyer Receives ACC Weekly Honors

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer has earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season following a perfect weekend for the Eagles. Splitting the award with Ashley Hoffman of North Carolina, Dwyer helped the Eagles to back-to-back shutouts over No. 10 Virginia and New Hampshire, while only allowing one goal at Northeastern – the only allowed goal of the three games.

Dwyer faced 16 shots over the three games, recording four saves, as the Eagles went 3-0 over the week. She started all three games, playing the full 70:00 regulation vs. Northeastern and Virginia. She stayed in net for 26:36 vs. New Hampshire before being replaced by freshman Jonna Kennedy after the Eagles had secured three goals.

This is the first time that an Eagle has received the award twice in a season since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005.

The Eagles have a week-long break before heading to Fairfield for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 30. They are currently 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, second behind undefeated North Carolina.
