Bike helps BC top No. 7 FSU, Hunter skippers BC to second place
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women's soccer junior Jenna Bike and freshman skipper Robert Hunter have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week following their performances last week.
Â
Bike was instrumental in the Eagles taking down No. 7 Florida State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon and helping the team extend its season-opening unbeaten streak to 10 games. The forward scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute, running onto a beautiful ball from Emily Langenderfer, past the defense and placing a shot over the FSU goalkeeper who was coming out to cut the angle. Earlier in the game, Bike earned a penalty kick after breaking into the box and being held up by an FSU defender. Gaby Carreiro converted from the spot for the 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. Bike ended up with a team-high four shots and also had three in the Eagles' 3-0 win over Syracuse on Thursday night. This is the first time the program has opened up a season with a 10-0-0 run.
Â
Hunter placed second in Division B at the Norman Reid Trophy regatta this past weekend. The skipper – joined by Laura Ferraris (races 1-4, 10-11) and Nicole Moeder (races 5-9, 12) on the crew – totaled 55 points, five ahead of the University of Rhode Island Rams in third with 60.
