Eagles One Week Away From Season Opener
August 10, 2018 | Women's Soccer
BC to host Quinnipiac on Friday, Aug. 17
The Boston College women's soccer team is a week away from the season opener, as the Eagles will host Quinnipiac on Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. All regular season home games will be at the Newton Soccer Complex which is right off Centre Street in Newton. Admission is free for all regular season home games.
The Eagles all checked in on August 1, and have run through fitness testing, trainings and fitness sessions. Today's workout was spirited as the team worked on the defensive shape and finishing. The training ended with a spirited short field game between Gold and Maroon.
Tomorrow the team will hold an intra-squad scrimmage, followed by a recovery day on Sunday and Monday off before the team starts preparing for Friday's game vs. Quinnipiac. The Eagles only scrimmage this preseason was a 4-1 road win vs. Penn State on Sunday, Aug. 5.
Team Notes
The Eagles welcomed four new players to the roster – freshmen defender Kayla Duran (Woburn, Mass.), freshman goalkeeper Maddie Murphy (Grafton, Mass.), freshman goalkeeper Alexia Lema (Sonoma, Calif.) along with graduate senior Rachel Newborough (Leeds, England) … Head Coach Alison Foley, who is entering her 22nd season at BC, is also happy to have red-shirt junior Gaby Carreiro and red-shirt sophomore Jade Ruiters back on the field. The two missed 2017 with season-ending injuries … The Eagles return eight starters from the 2017 team including goalkeeper Alexis Bryant, co-captain Kayla Jennings, juniors Jenna Bike and Olivia Vaughn and sophomore Sam Coffey … Today's temperature was pleasant at 82 degrees compared the heat and humidity the team has been dealing with since the start of training camp … Fans remember you can follow the team on social media – Twitter/@BC_WSOC and Instagram/@BC_WSOC.
