Eagles Place Eighth at Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston College rowing team competed in five races in the Women's Sprints League Championship on Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Eagles also celebrated one of the last races for the class of 2018.

Seniors captain Laura Mazziotta, captain Claire Orzel, Amanda Bakke, Haley Bower, Kelly Bungard, Jessica Ferrante, Michela Karrash, Megan Lydon, Jacqueline McDonnell, Elizabeth McKernan and Victoria Mulkern were all honored by their teammates.

"These seniors have improved significantly over their four years at BC, and in particular, they have made tremendous progress this year," head coach Steve Fiske said. "They will be greatly missed"

The Eagles finished in eighth place on the day, racing against Harvard-Radcliffe (1), Dartmouth (2), Rutgers (3), Northeastern (4), Columbia (5), Temple (6), Tennessee (7), Drexel (9), Boston University (10), Connecticut (11), MIT (12) and Holy Cross (13).

The Eagles' varsity eight raced their newly christened boat named "Class of 2018." The boat was generously donated by the families of the senior class. After a challenging heat in the morning, BC advanced to the petite final, finishing fourth and placing 10th overall.

The second varsity eight finished third in its heat advancing to the petite final. BC took first to finish seventh overall. The crew finished one second ahead of Tennessee to capture the Petite Final victory.

The eighth-seed varsity four edged the five-seed Northeastern in the heat to finish second in heats and advance to the grand final, where the Eagles took sixth place.

The best finish for the Eagles was in the second varsity four event, taking a fifth-place finish in the grand final.

The third varsity eight advanced to the grand final as well and finished sixth.
