Boston College notches 18th win of the season – new program record

DURHAM, N.C. – Second-ranked Boston College scored 14 first half goals and never looked back as the Eagles defeated eighth-seeded Louisville, 19-6, in the first round of the ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship today at Koskinen Stadium on the campus of Duke University. The Eagles will play No. 5 Notre Dame at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Boston College improved to 18-0 on the season, which is a new program record for most wins in a single-season.

The Eagles (18-0, 7-0 ACC) scored 14 goals in the first half, including four straight in the first three minutes of play, two by senior Kaileen Hart, who is a first-team All-ACC honoree.

Junior Sam Apuzzo, a first-team All-ACC honoree, controlled the game as she had 12 of her career-high 17 draw controls in the first half. She finished with 17, a new program record for draw controls in a single-game.

The Eagles defense was stifling as they held Louisville to just six goals, one in the second half and 21 shots. Lauren Daly had six saves in goal, while Abbey Ngai played in the final 4:26 between the pipes and made three saves. Daly was named a second-team All-ACC honoree for her play this season.

The offense kept rolling as Boston College took 41 total shots, the second highest shot tally by the team this season. The Eagles had 43 vs. San Diego State earlier in the season.

Senior Kaileen Hart finished with four goals while junior Dempsey Arsenault, senior Tess Chandler and Apuzzo had three goals apiece. Arsenault added two helpers in the win.

 BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Sam Apuzzo set a new single-game program record for draw controls with 17. She had 12 in the first half alone. Apuzzo finished with three goals. Her first goal of the game came at 20:58 in the first half, giving her 100 points on the season.
- Kaileen Hart finished with three goals. She now has 39 goals this season.
- Dempsey Arsenault, a first-team All-ACC selection, finished with three goals to give her 51 on the season. Her 50th came in the first half to give BC an 11-4 lead with 13:17 to play.
- The Eagles limited the Louisville to just 9-for-18 success in clear attempts, including an impressive 2-for-8 in the first half. BC went 10-for-10 in clears for the game.
- The BC victory was the team's 18th of the season, setting a new single-season record for the Eagles.
- BC jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game as Kaileen Hart (2 goals), Taylor Walker and Dempsey Arsenault all netted tallies.
- Louisville's Tessa Chad stopped the Louisville offensive drought with a goal at 23:38 but the Eagles came back with four straight goals for an 8-1 lead with 20:08 to play. In the second four goal run by BC, Tess Chandler notched three goals, while Apuzzo scored her first of the game.
- Emily Howell scored to cut into the Eagles lead, 8-2, but Apuzzo scored her 70th of the season with 17:01 to play which extended the BC lead to 9-2.
- The two teams exchanged goals, Hart notching her second of the game at 14:08 and BC went up, 10-3.
- After Louisville's Ally Hall scored with 13:39, BC responded with two goals – Arsenault with her 50th and Emma Schurr with her first of the game.
- Louisville's Madison Hoover scored at 9:32 but again BC's offense shot back. Sheila Reitano and Arsenault scored to end the first half in the Eagles favor, 14-5.
- The second half the Eagles opened with three straight goals to push the lead to 17-5.
- Hart opened the scoring with her 40th goal of the season followed by Reitano's second goal of the game. Cara Urbank picked up a loose ball in front of the goal and struck for her first of the day and 14th on the season.
- Shayla Scanlan stopped the BC run but Urbank scored off a nice feed from Rietano and the Eagles lead was 18-6. With 14:37 to play, Apuzzo and Arsenault connected for the 19-6 lead.
