These Eagles had outstanding performances last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior lacrosse player Sam Apuzzo and junior golfer Matthew Naumec have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.
Apuzzo single-handedly keyed the Eagles' final regular-season victory to ensure a perfect 17-0 regular season. The West Babylon, N.Y. native led all players with eight points in BC's 13-12 win over No. 16 Syracuse on Thursday. Her five goals were also the most in the game, including the Eagles' final three goals after Syracuse came back to tie the game at 10-10.
In an all-around effort, Apuzzo also registered a career-high six caused turnovers – including the game-changing SU turnover with 24 seconds remaining to give possession back to BC which set up her game-winner as time wound down. Additionally, Apuzzo collected a game-high seven draw controls. After 'Cuse tied it at 10-10 and after almost six minutes of scoreless action, Apuzzo's third goal of the day put BC back ahead only for SU to tie the score again at 11-11. After the Orange took a 12-11 lead, Apuzzo evened the score at 12-12. A BC free position shot to win it clanged off the post and SU recovered at midfield, and after a timeout, Apuzzo forced the SU turnover, giving possession back to BC. After resetting the play, she scored the game-winning goal with 1.7 seconds left.
Naumec finished in a tie for 21st place (71-72-69=212), after a final round 69 (-3) at the ACC Championship.  Naumec posted six birdies on Sunday's scorecard and finished the tournament with 13 birdies over the 54 holes of play. He finished among the tournament leaders in par 5 scoring, going 7-under for the weekend and averaging 4.42 strokes per par 5 hole. He opened the ACC Championship with a 1-under par 71 during Friday's opening round and shot an even-par 72 during the second round of play on Saturday.
The lacrosse team will open championship play when it plays Louisville on Thursday, April 26 in Durham, N.C. at the ACC Championship. The men's golf team will return to action when it participates in the NCAA Regional Championship on Monday – Wednesday, May 14 – 16.
