Head coach Jerry York claimed his fourth-career Hockey East Coach of the Year honors while Logan Hutsko collected Boston College's eighth Rookie of the Year award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Boston College head coach Jerry York was tabbed Hockey East Coach of the Year while freshman forward Logan Hutsko became Boston College's eighth Rookie of the Year and second winner in two years as announced by the league at its annual postseason banquet at the Royal Sonesta on Thursday evening.
Â
York collects his fourth Hockey East Coach of the Year honor after leading the Eagles to an overall record of 20-13-3, with an 18-6-0 record in league play which was good for BC's league record 16th regular season conference title. It marks York's ninth regular-season title at the helm of his alma mater.
Â
Boston College was picked to finish fourth in the league for the 2017-18 season at the conference's annual media day at TD Garden Sept. 26, 2017. The Eagles have now won the regular-season title two of the last three seasons.
Â
York's nine Hockey East tournament titles (1998, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012) are the gold standard in Hockey East. He is 60-19-1 (.756) in 80 conference postseason contests. Boston College has advanced to the semifinal round of the league tournament in 13-of-19 seasons overall under York (York's first semifinal showing was in 1997) and 12 Hockey East Championship games.
Â
Under York, Boston College has now won 20 games in a season for the ninth time in a row, which marks the second-longest streak in college hockey behind Denver (17). Boston College has won its last six games, tied with Mercyhurst for second best in the nation.
Â
Previously, York has won Hockey East Coach of the Year in 2004, 2011 and 2014. This year's honor marks the Eagles' fifth Coach of the Year honor as the late Len Ceglarski won the league's first ever Bob Kullen Coach of the Year Award in 1985.
Â
Hutsko not only because Boston College's eighth Rookie of the Year in program history and second in three years, but he was also named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
Â
The Tampa, Fla. native joins Colin White (2016), Chuck Kobasew (2001), Brian Gionta (1998), Marty Reasoner (1996), Ian Moran (1992), Brian Leetch (1987) and Ken Hodge (1985) as BC's eighth Hockey East Rookie of the Year.
Â
The freshman forward native leads Hockey East in points scored amongst rookies with 31 (12-19-31) and points per game (0.86) and ranks sixth, nationally, amongst all freshmen players. Amongst all of the NCAA, Hutsko is tied for 84th in points scored. With the conference, Hutsko is tied for eighth with Boston University's Bobo Carpenter and Providence's Brian Pinho with 0.86 points per game.
Â
Hutsko was tabbed the Hockey East Rookie of the Month in February after he led all NCAA rookies with 13 points on seven goals and six assists.
Â
BC's dynamic winger is the first Eagle to crack the 30-point plateau (12-19-31) this season and leads the Eagles in multi-point games this season with eight. He is tied for the team in lead in goals scored (12) and has doled out the most assists for the maroon and gold with 19.
Â
Back in early February, Hutsko became the first Eagle to account for five goals in two games since Nathan Gerbe turned the trick 10 years ago during the 2007-08 season. Hutsko scored the game-tying goal and overtime winner against UMass Lowell on Feb. 9 and followed that performance with a natural hat trick against Harvard in the Beanpot consolation on Feb. 12, all occurring in the third period, in a span of 11 minutes and 23 seconds, including an even strength goal, power play goal and extra attacker goal. That hat trick is BC's only of the season.
