As winter sports wind down, spring sports are heating up.
Despite another foot-plus of snow culminating around the region, the winter sports season is quickly coming to a close.
Â
Chris Grando's overtime game-winner versus Merrimack last Saturday kept the men's hockey team rolling towards the TD Garden for a Hockey East semifinal battle versus crosstown rival Boston University.
Â
"I loved our battle," head coach Jerry York said. "We gave up a late goal in the third period, but, came back really strong."
Â
Sophomore goalie Joseph Woll backed the two-game sweep of the Warriors with a shutout (1-0 in game 1) and a combined 80 saves in the series, earning him Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors in the process.
Â
"Joe Woll was outstanding this weekend," York noted. "The player's not getting much accolades with the Mike Richter Award. I wouldn't trade him for anybody."
Â
This season's third installment of the Battle of Comm Ave. will go down on Friday night, with a 5:07 p.m. puck drop.
