Burt Stops 30 in Shutout at No. 10 Maine
February 16, 2018 | Women's Hockey
Eagles take the 5-0 win as Watts and Miano tally three-point days in record-setting fashion
ORONO, Maine – Katie Burt made 30 saves in a shutout effort as the No. 4 Boston College women's hockey team earned a 5-0 road win at No. 10 Maine on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Daryl Watts also netted her 30th goal of the season in Hockey East play – and her 40th overall this season – to tie the conference's single-season goal record in league play.
Watts and defenseman Toni Ann Miano each netted one goal and added two assists, while Caitrin Lonergan tallied one goal and one assist in the victory at Alfond Arena. Delaney Belinskas and Makenna Newkirk rounded out the scoring with single goals in the win.
With her three-point day, Watts moved within one point of the Hockey East single-season points record of 55 points. She'll enter tomorrow's regular-season finale with 54 points in league play, one back of the mark Northeastern's Kendall Coyne set in 2015-16.
Miano also had a record-tying day with her goal. She matched Genevieve Missirlian's 17-goal mark from 1997-98, which stood as the program's single-season goal mark by a defenseman for 20 years.
The two programs will meet again at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Orono in the teams' 2017-18 regular-season finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st, 5:38 | BC GOAL, 1-0 – Daryl Watts sent Caitrin Lonergan in for a 1-on-2 rush, and Lonergan created space around the defenders to get a shot off. Maine goaltender Carly Jackson made the stop, and Lonergan picked up her own rebound, skated around the net and played it out of the zone to Bridget McCarthy near center ice. The defenseman spun around to let everyone clear the zone and then played Lonergan back in. The sophomore again went against multiple defensemen, getting a step ahead of them and enough space to lift a shot over Jackson's blocker-side shoulder and give BC a 1-0 lead.
1st, 19:59 | BC GOAL, 2-0 – As time was winding down in the first period, Toni Ann Miano started one last rush and found Delaney Belinskas along the BC bench. Belinskas then played a cross-ice pass to Watts who rushed up the left wing and into the Maine end. She gained the zone and put shot on target with a pair of Black Bears bearing down on her, but Jackson mishandled the save and dropped the puck in the crease. With seven tenths of a second left, Belinskas shoveled the loose puck past Jackson in traffic and gave the Eagles a two-goal cushion going into the first intermission.
2nd, 1:25 | BC GOAL, 3-0 – The Eagles were defending along the wall in their own end and Maine got the puck free along the wall and fed it up to the point. Lonergan blocked the shot and fed Molly Slowe to create space before Slowe collected the puck and gave it back to Lonergan. She sprinted out of the zone before playing a pass up ahead to Watts breaking into the Maine end for a breakaway. Watts deked in front of Jackson, cut across the crease and backhanded a goal in past her left leg and the post.
2nd, 15:45 | BC GOAL, 4-0 – BC kept the puck pinned in Maine's zone and it got fed up to Miano at the point. Her initial shot was blocked, but she got the rebound and pushed it back down into the crease in traffic where Kenzie Kent got control, skated out wide and played it back into the slot for Makenna Newkirk who put a wrist shot high over Jackson's right shoulder for the four-goal advantage.
3rd, 5:11 | BC GOAL, 5-0 – Miano intercepted a Maine forward pass along the boards in front of the BC bench, and skated ahead, picking up Willow Corson on her left. Just before the blue line, she dished off to Corson and the pair entered the zone on a 2-on-4. However, Miano skated through three Black Bears and got her stick ahead of the defense, creating a lane for Corson's centering pass. Miano received the puck at the edge of the crease and redirected it through Porter's five hole, giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead.
