Eagles Split Weekend in Sunshine State

The swim and dive team topped Florida Atlantic, but fell to Miami
CORAL GABLES, Fla. –The Boston College swim and dive team flew south for their first away meet of the 2018-19 season as they took on Miami, Florida Atlantic and Princeton. Over the two-day meet, the team celebrated a 169.50-124.50 men's team win and a 121-103 women's team win over Florida Atlantic. Miami had the upper-hand over the two-day women's meet, edging the Eagles 256-170.

Highlighting Friday's action was a second-place finish in the men's 200-yard backstroke from Taylor Cortens with a time of 50.78 and a third-place 1:53.30 finish in the men's 200-yard butterfly from Colin O'Leary.

Michael Hinton placed fifth in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.31 while Sam Roche came in seventh (47.67) and Max Threlkeld placed eighth (47.68). Colin O'Leary also placed fourth in the men's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.65 while Taylor Cortens came in right behind at fifth with 1:54.81. Alex Shehab earned sixth in the same event with 1:55.69.

Taylor Cortens and Arthur Hidalgo placed fourth and sixth for the Eagles in the men's 400-yard individual medley as Cortens finished with a 4:08.93 and Hidalgo with 4:13.07. Zander Santana came in at seventh with 4:13.13.

Highlighting the two-day women's meet with Miami was a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle from Ashleigh Scott with a time of 52.75. Ali Kea earned second in the same event with a time of 53.03. Ashleigh Scott, Julie Dobson, Haley Dolan and Ali Kea took the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay.Â

A second-place 1:45.94 finish in the 200-yard medley relay came from the team of Maura Grimes, Taylor Covington, Victoria Lin and Haley Dolan. Haley Dolan (24.08) and Ali Kea (24.28) took second and third, respectively, in the women's 50-yard freestyle.Â

Victoria Lin and Ina Elcott earned second and third in the women's 100-yard butterfly with times of 57.19 and 57.90. For the 100-yard breaststroke, Taylor Covington finished second with a time of 1:06.80.Â

Up next, the Eagles head to West Lafayette, Ind. To compete in the ACC/Big Ten All-Star Meet, hosted by Purdue. The challenge will take place over the Nov. 10-11, 2018 weekend.
