Sam Coffey Named To Hermann Trophy List

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore Sam Coffey was named to a 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist today as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Association.

Coffey, a midfielder, was not on the preseason list but her play in this fall earned her a spot as one of the top 15 on the Hermann Trophy list. She is one of three ACC players on the final list.

The ACC's Midfielder of the Year , Coffey led the conference in scoring all season. She finished the 2018 season with 12 goals, 14 assists for 38 points. Coffey was also first in the ACC in points per game (1.90) and goals per game (0.60). She was second in the conference in game-winning goals (5) while also tallying four game-winning assists this season.

An All-ACC first team honoree, Coffey was tied in first nation in total assists (14) and sixth in points per contest at the end of the regular season. She scored a goal or assist in 14 of 20 games. Coffey matched her career-high in assists in a single game with three in the win over Albany on Aug. 23. She tallied her first career first career hat trick against Virginia Tech on Oct. 4. She posted a five-game point scoring streak to start the season (5 goals, 7 assists) and repeated the feat from the end of Sept. into October in five straight games (6 goals, 1 assist).

A native of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., Coffey earned ACC Player of the Week honors & United Soccer Coaches POW on Oct. 9 and was a preseason All-ACC first team honoree. She was also the Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week on Aug. 28.

Coffey joins an elite group of players in program history as she is only the fourth Boston College player to be named a semifinalist:
