Samantha Coffey Named ACC Midfielder Of The Year

Defender Kayla Duran earns All-ACC Freshman Team honors
NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Sam Coffey was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year and to the All-ACC first team as announced today by the conference. Freshman defender Kayla Duran was also honored as she was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
Coffey, who was a 2017 All-Freshman Team honoree, led the ACC in scoring from the mid-season on as she finished with career-highs in goals (12), assists (14) and points (38).
The Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., is tied in first nationally in total assists (14) and sixth in points per contest. Her stellar season included her first career hat trick in a 3-0 win over visiting Virginia Tech on Oct. 4. She has also scored a goal or assist in 14-of-19 games and has five game-winning goals. The 38 points scored is tied in fourth on the all-time single season program list.
The midfielder is only the fourth player in program history to garner a conference player of the year award. In 2006, Laura Georges earned Defender of the Year, while Gina DiMartino was named Freshman of the Year. Her sister Victoria DiMartino earned Freshman of the Year honors in 2009.
Duran, a rookie defender, led the Eagles with 1,737 minutes played. She started and played every minute of every game this season. Duran tallied her first career goal in the 3-0 win over Syracuse. It was also the game-winner on Sept. 20.
The Woburn, Mass. native, Duran solidified the Eagles backline that finished the regular with a stellar 0.62 team goals against average. The defense helped the Eagles post 10 shutouts this season, including sixth consecutive during the season.
She is the sixth BC defender to earn All-ACC Freshman team honors since the Eagles joined the ACC in 2005.
