Eagles play 15-inning scrimmage vs. SNHU.
BRIGHTON, Mass. -- The Boston College baseball team played a fall exhibition game against Southern New Hampshire at the Harrington Athletics Village on Sunday. The game marked the first of two this month and the first-ever for a program that opened its new ballpark back in March.
Â
The Eagles' fall practice season began early in September on the artificial turf field on BC's Brighton Campus. The facility was opened in mid-March and officially dedicated on April 14. The baseball stadium offers a 1,000-person seating capacity, AstroTurf playing surface, batting cages, Musco LED lights, Daktronics scoreboard and working press box.
Â
BC welcomed the SNHU Penmen, who went 41-17 and played in the Division II Championship in 2018, on Sunday. The two sides took the field for three five-inning affairs.
Â
Freshman right-hander Mason Pelio, the No. 364 prospect in June's draft according to Baseball America. He walked two batters in the first, but got out of trouble by picking off the leadoff man and inducing a 5-4-3 double play.
Â
Senior catcher Gian Martellini ripped the first hit of the day, a double to left. Two productive outs later and the Eagles pushed across the first run of the day as junior right fielder Connor Bacon brought in a run with a groundball to the right side with a runner at third. Bacon later walked and scored in his second at-bat.
Â
Boston College will play again next Sunday, October 21 at 11 a.m. when it hosts Quinnipiac for its second and final fall exhibition.
