The four-year UMass forward joins the Eagles ranks
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College field hockey head coach Kelly Doton announced on Tuesday that Nicole Cordero is rounding out the team's coaching staff as an assistant coach. The Illinois native was a four-year starter at Massachusetts and brings coaching and recruiting experience to The Heights.
Â
"I'm excited for Nicole to join the staff. She knows what it takes to be a top-level elite athlete after a four-year career at UMass," Doton said. "She is going to bring a lot of energy to the program and I know our players will benefit from being around her.
Â
Cordero played forward for the Minutewomen from 2009 to 2013. She earned National Field Hockey Coaches Associations (NFHCA) Second-Team Regional All-American honors and Atlantic-10 Conference First-Team honors as a senior. She was dubbed UMass's Offensive Player of the Year, A-10 All-Tournament Team and was a Division I Senior Game selection that year. She collected all-conference second-team honors as a junior and was named the Kathy Phelan "Heart of the Team" Award recipient after her sophomore campaign.
Â
"It's great to be back in the state I called home for four years of my life and I am incredibly excited and humbled to have the opportunity to begin my collegiate coaching career at Boston College," Cordero said. "Kelly is an amazingly knowledgeable coach and has put together a fantastic team. I'm looking forward to learning all I can from her and to assist in ensuring both the team and the individual players accomplish all their goals both on and off the field."
Â
The Forest Park, Ill., native most recently coached at Oak Park Forest High School, from 2013 to 2017. She was the head field hockey coach and assistant lacrosse coach for the Huskies.
Â
In 2014, Cordero was the head recruiting coach for field hockey for the National Collegiate Scouting Association, where she provided guidance and support to parents and student-athletes looking to play college athletics.
Â
Cordero graduated from UMass in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in sociology.
