CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's cross country teams begins the 2017 season with a dual meet against Harvard at the Chestnut Hill Reservoir at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1.
The Eagles' top runner, junior Sean Burke, will return this season after completing an impressive sophomore year in which he qualified for the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana Burke finished the 10K in 30:52.9.
The meet on Friday will serve as an early opportunity for the team to test their summer training against a classic Boston rival.
"We're going to throw guys in to see if they can develop into contributors on the team," explained head Coach Matt Kerr, who is entering his 10th year with the program. "We're giving them a chance to start and earn a spot."
The two teams will be running a 5K which is equivalent to two laps around the reservoir. "We're not clearing a path so they are going to run through the crowds. It's a test of fitness to see who's been training hard over the summer, give people a chance to earn a spot on the travel roster, and also to have some fun running a 5K right near campus."
