2017 Schedule Announced
August 03, 2017 | Men's Cross Country
BC to host invitational on Sept. 22
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -Â Head Coach Matt Kerr and the Boston College men's cross country team have announced their 2017 schedule, which includes the Eagles visiting Louisville multiple times during the season.
The men will open their season on Sept. 1 in a dual meet against Harvard University at Franklin Park. The meet will serve as an early opportunity for the team to test their summer training against a classic Boston rival.
Following their season opener, the Eagles will return to Franklin Park for the Boston College Coast-To-Coast Battle in Beantown on Sept. 22. One of the top cross country meets in the country, this year's Battle in Beantown will include powerhouse Northeast Regional teams such as Syracuse, Providence, and Dartmouth, who all qualified for the NCAA Championships last fall. In addition to the regional teams, Illinois and Alabama will be two strong out of region teams to compete.
The team will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by Arkansas on Sept. 30. After a great team effort in 2016, the Eagles will look to replicate their performance and test themselves against one of the nation's top teams.
The Eagles will return to Franklin Park on Oct. 7 for the New England Cross Country Championships before hitting the road for the remainder of the season.Â
On Oct. 14, the Eagles will set their sights on the Pre-National Meet at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park, which will serve as the location for both the ACC and NCAA Championships. This will give the team an important opportunity to prepare for the championship season ahead.
Following a weekend off, the Eagles will return to Louisville for the ACC Championships on Oct. 27. Hosted by the Cardinals, the men will look to improve upon their 12th-place finish from the 2016 season. At last year's championship, Sean Burke was named to the All-ACC Second Team after his 10th-place performance. Burke will try to crack the All-ACC First Team and compete against some of the nation's top runners in the front pack.
The NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by the University of Buffalo on Nov. 10, will serve as the qualifying race for the NCAA Championships. Burke will attempt to qualify to his second consecutive National Championship which will be held on Nov. 18 in Louisville.
