Apuzzo leads the way as the only sophomore to earn first-team honors
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College had three selections to the 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Team, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Sophomore Sam Apuzzo earned first team honors while sophomore Elizabeth Miller and senior Kate Weeks were named to the second team.
Â
Apuzzo is the only freshman or sophomore to earn first-team honors. She led the way this season with 83 points, ranking third nationally and first in the ACC. Apuzzo has also led the Eagles with 49 draw controls. Apuzzo was named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American and became the fastest player in program history to record 100-career points (25 games).
Â
Weeks has also been a key member of the ACC's second-best offense. With 54 goals this season, Weeks is ranked among the top 10 goal scorers in the nation. She is one of the most efficient scorers in the ACC, netting 56 percent of her shots.
Â
Miller joins the second team as one of the best defenders in the conference. Along with leading the Eagles in ground balls and caused turnovers, she has assisted in shutting down some of the top scorers in the league. Most recently, she held first-team selection Courtney Fortunato of Notre Dame to just two points in the Eagles' 16-10 victory.
Â
Individual awards, including Attacker, Midfielder, Defender, Freshman and Coach of the Year, will be voted on by the league's head coaches following the ACC Championship.
Â
The Eagles square off against Notre Dame in the first round of the ACC Championship on Thursday at 2 p.m.
