BC has won the Baseball Beanpot the last three straight years

The 28th Beanpot championship game was halted on April 19 after four and a half innings due to rain. The Eagles and Crimson could not find an open date to finish the contest. The game is recorded as official.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Michael Strem went 2-for-2 with an RBI, run scored and stolen base. He recorded his 56th career double and still stands second all-time in BC record books.
- Freshman Brian Dempsey was also 2-for-2 in the game.
- Sophomore Jake Alu drew a walk stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch, which ended up being the winning run.
- Freshman RHP Jack Cunningham earned his first career win, throwing 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed three hits, one run and struck out one.
- Junior RHP Donovan Casey picked up his fourth save of the season, getting the final two outs in the top of the fifth.
KEY PLAYS
- After Harvard plated one in the first, the Eagles came back to take the lead in their first at bat.
- The Crimson made it a one-run game in the fifth, and with a runner on first and one out, Casey came in and got two outs, including a strikeout swinging to end the inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Quinn Hoffman hit a one-out, solo home run into the seats in the Green Monster off sophomore LHP Dan Metzdorf to give Harvard a 1-0 lead.
- It didn't take long for the Eagles to take the lead, scoring two in the bottom of the inning off starter RHP Garrett Rupp. Casey legged out an infield single to start the game and moved to second on a grounder to short. Strem plated him with a double to right center. Sophomore Gian Martellini chopped one to third, which took a BC bounce, allowing runners to reach on the corners. Junior Mitch Bigras plated Strem with a single to left center.
- The Eagles added a run in the fourth as Alu drew a walk, stole second and third on consecutive pitches and scored on a wild pitch.
- The Crimson made it a one-run game in the fifth with Cunningham on the mound. Patrick McColl started the inning with a double to left and stole third. After Cunningham got a strikeout swinging for the first out, John MacLean scored McColl with a single through the right side. Casey entered the game and after a sac bunt moved MacLean to second, the righty ended the inning with a strikeout swinging.
BEANPOT FACTS
- The Eagles won their 13th Beanpot, the most of any school.
- It was the third straight title and the fourth under seventh-year head coach Mike Gambino.
- The three-year run in the longest win streak for BC.
- It the fifth time the Eagles claimed the title over the Crimson and improve to 14-4-1 overall against Harvard in the Boston-based tournament.
- The Eagles hold a 37-16-1 record in the Beanpot tournament.
