Tight Loss Comes Down to Close Third Sets

IRVINE, Calif. – The Boston College men's tennis team fell to UC Irvine, 4-3, in Tuesday evening's nonconference road match.

The Eagles (3-6) won three straight points with three singles victories, including two wins from freshmen.

Junior Kent Mukai earned BC's first victory of the contest with a 6-2, 6-3 win in fifth singles. Then freshman Alexander Chieffalo earned a 6-4, 6-1 win in sixth singles to tie the overall score, 2-2.

Freshman Sean Mullins then gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead with a comeback 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory in fourth singles.

However, UC Irvine (4-7) clinched the victory with wins in the final two matches: third and second singles, which both came down to 7-6 scores in the third set.

The Eagles will next visit UNLV on Friday at 2 p.m.
