Eagles take weekly honors after standout efforts last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College sophomore guard Ky Bowman (men's basketball) and senior defenseman Toni Ann Miano (women's hockey) have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week following their performances last week.
Bowman was one assist shy of a triple-double in Boston College's 89-84 win over No. 1 Duke on Saturday. The Havelock, N.C. native scored a season-high 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out nine assists in BC's first victory over Duke since 2009. Â Bowman connected on 12-of-24 of his shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers. On the defensive end, Bowman was part of a BC collective that held the Duke backcourt to 19-of-45 (42.2 percent) shooting from the floor, including 7-of-25 (28 percent) from beyond the arc. The 30 points were the most scored in a single-game by an opposing player vs. No. 1 Duke this season and the most by a Duke opponent since Feb. 18, 2017 (John Collins, Wake Forest - 31).
Miano had stand-out performances in No. 2 Boston College's two-win weekend. Miano posted five points from one goal and four assists in BC's two victories over Merrimack. She led all defenseman nationally in scoring last week, and her four assists were tops among all skaters in Hockey East. On Friday, she collected a pair of assists in the Eagles' 4-1 win over the Warriors at Kelley Rink, assisting on BC's first and third goals. On Saturday in North Andover, Miano scored the game-tying goal midway through the second period, then assisted on Caitrin Lonergan's game-winning shorthanded goal about two minutes later.
Men's basketball (7-3) returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 12, when the team hosts Columbia at 7 p.m. No. 2 women's hockey (15-1-3) returns to the ice on Tuesday, Jan. 2, when they travel to North Andover, Mass. to face Merrimack at 4 p.m.
