Lowery’s 19 Points Not Enough at Minnesota

Rookie Syndey Lowery scored a career-high 19 points in loss.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Boston College women's basketball fought hard but fell to Minnesota, 78-68, at Williams Arena in a non-conference battle on Sunday night.
The Eagles cut the lead 10 points three times in the second half playing with five players with three or more fouls.
Minnesota held a lead of 20-point lead in the third quarter but the Eagles never stopped fighting as freshman Sydney Lowery scored 15 of her season-high 19 points in the second half.
Boston College shot 42.6 percent from the floor and 47.6 percent from the three-point line but lost the game on the boards. Minnesota out-rebounded BC, 54-30, with 22 offensive rebounds.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Sydney Lowery scored 14 of her career-high 19 points in the second half to lead the Eagles. She also had four rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC was down just 9-7 after the first five minutes as Minnesota went 1-for-5 from the three-point line in the run. The two teams exchanged baskets until Kenisha Bell hit for eight straight to push Minnesota up, 18-14, with 2:41 to play. She finished the quarter with 16 of the Gophers 20 points.
- The Gophers held a 20-15 lead after one quarter. Milan Bolden-Morris and Taylor Ortlepp leach had four points in the quarter for BC.
- A 14-5 run by the Gophers in the first six minutes pushed the lead to 34-20. Bell had eight points in the run. BC closed it to nine points at 4:29 but Bell went on a five-point run to give Minnesota a 14-point lead.
- BC shot 33 percent in the first half while Minnesota shot 36 percent. The Gophers held a 43-29 halftime lead.
- Bell led all scorers with 23 first half points while Ortlepp had a BC team-high six points along with three rebounds.
- BC opened up on an 11-8 run to start the third quarter. Bolden-Morris had five points in the run and the Eagles were down 11 points with 4:54 to play in the quarter. The Eagles cut the lead to 10 points on two freebies from Sydney Lowery. Minnesota put together a 10-run behind six points from Bell and a three from Carlie Wagner. A three-pointer by Martina Mosetti followed by a three by Lowery stopped the run but BC was down, 61-46, after three.
