Senior goalie sets career high in saves (43) and establishes a new league mark for career HEA wins
BOSTON – Senior goaltender Katie Burt made a career-high 43 saves and set the Hockey East career wins record with her 53rd league victory as the third-ranked Boston College women's hockey team earned a 4-3 win at Boston University on Saturday afternoon.
Boston College (5-0-1, 2-0-1 HEA) took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to a pair of freshman goals from Willow Corson and Daryl Watts, and then built the lead to 3-0 behind Watts' second power-play goal of the day in the middle period.
Boston University (1-5-0, 1-5-0 HEA) cut into the lead just 1:09 after Watts' second before Erin Connolly scored her first of the season at 16:41 of the third to push BC's lead to 4-1.
However, the Terriers came back as time wound down. BU capitalized on several Eagles penalties – and extended time with an extra attacker because of an empty net – and scored two extra-attacker goals at 17:32 (Mary Grace Kelley) and 19:17 (Leslie, power play) to pull within one. With the Terriers gaining the zone after the faceoff, Toni Ann Miano blocked a Reagan Rust shot in the high slot with seconds remaining and cleared the puck to secure the game for BC.
Watts registered three points (two goals, one assist), while Corson (one goal, one assist) and Lonergan (two assists) also had multiple-point days.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 29, when the team hosts Maine at 2 p.m. at Kelley Rink. The game serves as the team's annual Skating Strides event in conjunction with Hockey East. Immediately following the game, the team will host the fall edition of Skate with the Eagles, a free meet-and-greet-and-skate event on the ice.

- 1st, 5:30 | 1-0, BC GOAL – As BU tried to break out of its end, Caitrin Lonergan forced a turnover at the red line, sending Serena Sommerfield play back around into the Terriers' end from the blue line. She skated deep to pick up trailers and, as a pair of BU defenders committed, put a hard-angled shot on which BU goaltender Erin O'Neil stopped. However, the rebound popped right out and onto Corson's stick in front for the easy tap-in and a 1-0 BC lead.
- 1st, 18:31 | 2-0, BC GOAL (PPG) – On the Eagles' first power play of the day, BC worked the puck outside on the through Lonergan before Makenna Newkirk ended up with it behind the goal. She came around and fed Daryl Watts in the slot, who backhanded the puck past O'Neil on her glove side for a 2-0 lead.
- 2nd, 10:05 | 3-0, BC GOAL (PPG) – BU cleared the Eagles' centering pass and Toni Ann Miano skated the length of the ice to pick the puck back up near the BC goal. She circled around, came up the right ring along the boards and, when she reached the goal line, flung a pass to the slot where Watts was charging in for the re-direction past O'Neil's blocker.
- 2nd, 11:14 | 3-1, BU GOAL (PPG) – BC had the puck deep in the BU end and as Kenzie Kent tried a centering pass, BU intercepted the puck and Abby Cook sprung Victoria Bach down the left side. Bach broke crossed the BU blue line and picked up Rebecca Leslie, skating through two zones on a 2-on-1. Once she hit the faceoff circle, she flicked a pass over to Leslie, but re-directed the pass behind BC goaltender Katie Burt for a BU goal.
- 3rd, 16:41 | 4-1, BC GOAL – Watts won the puck in a battle near the blue line, and the puck landed in Willow Corson's path. She skated in wide and then threw the puck into the slot. A BU defender tried to clear it, but mishandled it and the puck landed right in Erin Connolly's path. Connolly fell to her knee and threw a shot on net, beating O'Neil high on her blocker side to push the BC lead to 4-1.
- 3rd, 17:32 | 4-2, BU GOAL (EA) – With O'Neil pulled as BC's penalty kill killed off another penalty, Bach picked up the rebound of a Burt save and fed Leslie in the corner off the net. Leslie then threaded a pass into the low slot where Mary Grace Kelley banged in it past Burt in traffic to pull BU within two goals.
- 3rd, 19:17 | 4-3, BU GOAL (6x4 EA PPG) – With O'Neil out of the goal again and BC killing a late penalty, the Terriers used the two-man advantage to keep the Eagles pinned back in their zone. Burt made three saves to force faceoffs, but after the next faceoff, Reagan Rust sent a shot on from the low point, which Burt saved in traffic. However, two BU players plowed into Burt as she made the save, and puck laid loose in the crease just out of her reach and Leslie poked it in with under a minute to play.
