Eagles’ youngsters continue to shine on the field and ice
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman forward Daryl Watts (women's hockey) and redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Brown (football) have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.
Â
Watts earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week after leading the nation in scoring last week with 9 points (three goals, six assists). She had two four-point games as third-ranked BC went 2-0-1 on the week. On Tuesday, she factored in every BC goal in the 4-2 win over Quinnipiac, scoring a goal and adding three assists. On Friday, Watts scored the game-tying goal at UConn as the teams played to a 2-2 tie in Storrs. On Sunday, she again factored in every goal in the team's 4-2 win at Vermont, scoring the go-ahead goal in the third period and assisting on all three of Caitrin Lonergan's goals. Watts is currently tied for the national scoring lead (14 points) despite playing fewer games than anyone else with 14 points.
Â
Brown finished 19-of-24 passing for a career-high 275 yards in BC's 41-10 win at Virginia on Saturday. The freshman also threw for a career-high three touchdowns. Brown was the first Boston College player with three passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a conference game since Quinton Porter in 2003. Brown helmed the Eagles' offense that scored 40-plus points in consecutive ACC games for the first time in school history and for the first time in 15 years (Rutgers, 44-14, and Toledo, 51-25, in the final two games of the 2002 season). Brown completed a career-long 76-yard touchdown pass to Kobay White and also found tight end Tommy Sweeney for a pair of touchdowns. For his performance, Brown was named the ACC's Rookie of the Week and also earned a place The Manning Award List for the week.Â
Â
Football (4-4) returns to action on Friday, Oct. 27, when the team host Florida State in a game that will be televised on ESPN live at 8 p.m. The No. 3 women's hockey returns to the ice on Saturday, Oct. 28, when the team heads down Commonwealth Ave., to face Boston University at 3 p.m.
