Devlin S-AFE Trip: Day 2
January 11, 2017 | Devlin Student-Athlete Formation & Succe
The Eagles continued their work on their SBP sites and learned about Katrina's impact
For the eighth straight year, Boston College student-athletes are spending part of winter break in the New Orleans area on the Devlin S-AFE Trip. The week-long trip is centered on community service in partnership with SBP (formerly the St. Bernard Project), helping families rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina 11 years ago.Â
Each day, student-athletes will reflect on the day's activities. For more information about the trip and its purpose, check out the trip overview and check back for daily recaps.Â

Â
We started our day on Tuesday with an awesome homemade breakfast from James and Jean and then the two groups made our way to the worksites.
Â
At the other worksite today, we started our work putting up tar paper on the house. Soon the winds picked up causing setbacks in our task of removing lead paint from the old siding, but we quickly regrouped and continued our work by switching to putting up siding on the house.
Â
After a successful day at the worksites, we made our way to The Presbytere Museum in New Orleans' French Quarter. As we made our way through the museum, we learned more about the impact that Hurricane Katrina had on Louisiana. After that, we went out exploring the French Quarter, discovering the culture and sights of the city.
Â
By the time we got back, it was time for another delicious meal with James and Jean and group reflection about our day.
Â
Today we were inspired by the positivity and ingenuity of the locals after the devastating effects of Katrina. Seeing the local musicians and the upbeat culture influenced us in our own work with SBP by reminding us to staying positive through challenges and setbacks.
