Quarterback Patrick Towles' big move
The fast-paced lifestyle of New England just doesn't compare to the laid-back conditions of Northern Kentucky. Rarely do southern natives jump at the chance to bear the cold, harsh winters of the north that is unless opportunity presents itself. This was the case for Boston College quarterback Patrick Towles.
"I really really enjoyed my time at [the University of Kentucky] and I don't want to give that away. I don't regret anything that happened there. I loved it, that's my home. But I'm going to try to play as long as I can and when things aren't leading to that you've got to make a decision."
In January, the Fort Thomas, Ky. native packed his things and decided to head north. The frigid weather was uncomfortable at first, but the spring weather was timely enough to welcome him in. The fifth-year transfer's decision to leave home was not taken lightly.
"I loved it, that's my home. But I'm going to try to play as long as I can and when things aren't leading to that you've got to make a decision. Coach Addazio gave me the opportunity to compete for a job. Thankfully I won it and I get to play so I'm extremely grateful.
On Sept. 10,  the Eagles face the UMass Minutemen at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. Across the Ohio River, only five minutes from Towles childhood home, lies Bengals and Reds territory. Though his loyalties lie in Cincinnati sports there is local sports figure that Towles is fond of. Â
"I'm not a huge Patriots guy, but I'm a Tom Brady guy so that works."
He'll fit right in here.
