Despite the loss, many positives can be taken away from the Eagles trip to Ireland.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College suffered a heart-breaking defeat at the hands of ACC foe Georgia Tech, 17-14, in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday. Despite the outcome of the game, the Eagles trip to Ireland was a big success.
Despite the loss, BC's offense showed growth in the defeat. The offense averaged 6.52 yards per play, up from 4.40 yards last season, which included a 73-yard touchdown run by redshirt sophomore Jon Hilliman. In the third quarter.
On the other side of the ball, the Eagles defensive unit continued their strong play from last year. One member of the defense who had a strong performance at the starting defensive end position was sophomore Zach Allen. "He keeps getting better and better all the time," Lou Marinelli told NewCanaanite.com. "He's starting as a sophomore, which in and of itself is great. I think he's going to have a tremendous career."
The experience travelling to another country was a chance of a lifetime for the student-athletes. One member of the Eagles who especially enjoyed this privilege was sophomore wide receiver Michael Walker. "I'm Irish, so it's good to get a view of the homeland," Walker said.
Despite not being a traditional sport of Ireland, American football is more than a passing interest in the country. "Rugby and soccer are more popular," a native of Ireland said. "But American football's definitely gaining popularity, which is really cool."
BC head baseball coach Mike Gambino discusses the importance of "brothers" with his team and their recent success in the ACC.
