#ThrowbackThursday: Steve Aponavicius

Peyton '10, who played softball
at Boston College
In 2006, when the Eagles needed a place-kicker, then-graduate assistant Jay Civetti spotted Aponavicius kicking footballs in Alumni Stadium. Shortly thereafter, he went from ordinary student to hero when he led the Eagles to a 22-3 upset of No. 22 Virginia Tech. He went on to become one of the most successful kickers in BC football history, becoming the all-time scoring leader (later eclipsed by Nate Freese) and securing his place in BC football folklore.
Name: Steve Aponavicius
Sport Played: Football
Year Graduated: 2009
Current Profession: Portfolio Manager in Wells Fargo's Education & Non-Profit Banking Division
In His Own Words: After graduating from BC I've worked in Southern California and now Philadelphia but Chestnut Hill is never far from my heart. I met my wife there, some of my best friends there, and I take every opportunity I can to get back.
Best Memory of BC: Coming back to campus around 3 a.m. after beating Virginia Tech on the road in 2007 and just seeing the swarm of students who were there to welcome us home. It really put into perspective just how special that 2007 season was. That year transcended the game and really brought the whole BC community together.
Advice for Current Student-Athletes: Never forget to have fun. BC great Jamie Silva told me that the night before my first-ever game and I really took it to heart. It's so easy to get caught up in the pressure of competing at such a high level but we're all just playing a game we love, and for most of us college is the last chance we'll get to do it. Don't miss out on the opportunity to enjoy it!
I bet people don't know:Â I made the final decision to come to BC based on about a $1,000 difference in financial aid packages from Michigan, Penn State, and Maryland. Thank you to all the donors out there who pushed my BC package just ahead of those other schools! I am forever grateful.Â
