Mannelly named one of 25 top female collegiate lacrosse players in the country; looking to become finalist for second straight year
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Tewaaraton Award) – Boston College lacrosse midfielder and senior captain Sarah Mannelly was named one of 25 nominees for the 2016 Tewaaraton Award. The announcement was made Friday evening during halftime of the ACC men's lacrosse semifinal game between North Carolina and Syracuse on ESPNU.
Considered the equivalent of football's Heisman Trophy, the Tewaaraton Award annually recognizes the top player in both men and women's American collegiate lacrosse.
Already the program's first ever Tewaaraton Award finalist following her 2015 campaign, Mannelly is in the midst of her best season to date, having recorded a career high 69 points on 36 goals and 33 assists.
A two-time captain, the New Canaan, Conn. native recently amassed the 250 career point mark, becoming only the third player in program history to achieve that accolade. She is currently third in both the program's all-time points list and all-time goals list, while she is fourth in the all-time assists and seventh all-time in draw controls, respectively.
Entering the 2016 ACC Tournament, Mannelly was first in the conference in both assists and assists per game, while her then 31 assists were the 11th most in the nation.
On May 12, the list of 25 nominees will be cut down to five finalists, all of whom will be invited to the 16th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, being held at the Smithsonian Institution's American Indian Museum in the nation's capital. The event will be held on June 2. The trophy will be presented by the Tewaaraton Foundation and the University Club of Washington, D.C.
