Brazauskas Named Team Captain for 2016 Season
April 27, 2016 | Field Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College field hockey team has announced that Alexa Brazauskas will be the team's captain for the 2016 season.
The rising senior appeared in 22 games last season, making nine starts. Brazauskas' effort on defense played a pivotal role in helping the Eagles only concede 1.95 goals per game.
"I am very honored to be chosen as captain for the 2016 season," said Brazauskas. "This is an exciting time for our team, as we are focused and driven to build upon the successes of our 2015 season and reach new levels this fall. Our BCFH family is amazing as we all work so well together, demanding a lot from each other while supporting and inspiring one another to succeed."
The Woodbury, Conn., native has appeared in 38 games over her three seasons at The Heights.
Head coach Kelly Doton had a lot of positive things to say about Brazauskas:
"What a tremendous honor for Alexa to be voted captain by her peers. As the dynamics of a team changes yearly in collegiate sports, we try and put the team through certain exercises that will determine what type of leader they want at that time. Lex is an outstanding individual who can guide this team through adversity when we hit it and that's something very hard for 18-22 year olds to do. It's the ability to put the team first over individual agendas that make leaders great and everything Alexa has given to this program over the past three years demonstrates the respect she has earned from her teammates and their trust to guide them in 2016."
