
Eagles Net Fourth Straight BC-MIT Cup Victory

Eagles sweep Engineers in annual Charles River event
BOSTON - The Boston College women's rowing team defeated Massachusetts Institute of Technology to earn its fourth straight victory in the sixth annual BC-MIT Cup on Saturday morning on the Charles River course.
The Eagles, fresh off a third place team victory in the Beanpot last weekend, saw themselves sweep the Engineers in Saturday morning's three events. Boston College had six total boats competing.
In the Varsity Eight Race, BC and MIT battled in the first 1000 before BC pulled ahead decisively in the second half to win with a time of 7:05.4, eight seconds ahead of MIT's 7:13.0 finish.
The maroon and gold kicked off the day with victory in the Varsity Four event. The Eagles top boat finished with a time of 8:10.7, eight seconds ahead of the second varsity four boat from BC, who cruised to a second place finish in a time of 8:18.4. The Eagles Novice Four boat placed third in 8:39.6 before the lone MIT boat finished fourth in a time of 9:00.7
In the Second Varsity event, the second of Saturday's three events, BC's 2V8 boat placed first in a time of 7:25.1 while the 3V8 boat took second place with a time of 7:45.7. MIT's Second Varsity Eight boat placed third with a time of 7:49.5.
Saturday's event marked the sixth consecutive year that the two squads have competed against each other for the BC-MIT Cup. After the Engineers won the inaugural race in 2011 and again in 2012, the Eagles have now won four straight years following today's victory.
