BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Jake Palomaki went 1-for-3 with a walk. He has at least one hit in 20 of the Eagles' 31 games and reached base in 26.
- Junior Nick Sciortino hit a solo shot in the seventh to record his first career home run.
- Freshman Gian Martellini was 1-for-2 as a seventh-inning replacement at designated hitter.
- Sophomore RHP Brian Rapp threw a 123 eighth with one strikeout.
KEY PLAYS
- After four and a half scoreless innings, the Irish plated three in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.
- With two down, after one run had come in, a dropped foul ball allowed the inning continue and Notre Dame made BC pay for the error with a two-run home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Irish plated the first runs of the game in the fifth. Junior right-handed starter Justin Dunn walked Cavan Biggio with one down and then gave up a single to Jake Shepski. Redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh came on in relief and Zak Kutsulis hit a sac fly to left to score the first run of the game. Matt Vierling popped one up in foul territory but second baseman Palomaki could not keep it in his glove, giving the ND batter another shot. He launched a two-run homer to left to give the Irish a 3-0 lead.
- In the Eagles' next at bat, Sciortino launched a one-out home run over the left-field wall to cut the lead to two.
- Notre Dame added to its lead in the seventh. Biggio and Shepski reached on base hits and Kutsulis knocked a base hit up the middle to make it 4-1 game. With runners on the corners, Skogsbergh forced a pop up, which Palomaki caught in shallow right and fired home as Shepski tried to tag from third. Sciortino got him at the plate to end the inning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
