Pair honored for performances last week

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior Renee Bichette (fencing) and junior forward Ryan Fitzgerald (men's hockey) have been named Eagles of the Week.

Bichette became the first Boston College fencer in program history to crack the top eight at the NCAA Fencing Championships as she placed seventh to earn All-America status. In the two-day competition, Bichette went 13-10 with wins over eventual gold medalist Jessie Gottesman-Radanovich of Penn State and silver medalist Charlene Liu of Princeton.

Fitzgerald tallied his 100th career point on the game-winning power play goal in the third period of BC's 3-2 win over Minnesota Duluth in the NCAA Tournament. He beat Kasimir Kaskisuo with a wrister from the top of the crease to send the Eagles to the Frozen Four.

Men's hockey (28-7-5) will face Quinnipiac in the national semifinals on April 7 in Tampa, Fla.
