February 09, 2016 | Women's Soccer
Two members of the Boston College women's soccer team were named to the All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference today.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
Redshirt junior McKenzie Meehan and junior Hayley Dowd earned a spot on the team. This is the third season in which both Meehan and Dowd have earned the All-ACC Academic honor.
Meehan, a native of Glocester, Rhode Island, has earned a number of post-season awards. She was an All-ACC first team honoree, as well as an NSCAA Southeast first team All-America team selection. She was named to the NSCAA All-America third team and was 2015 Academic All-America Division 1 soccer team. Meehan was also a NSCAA Scholar All-America second team honoree.
The Eagles forward had a record setting season as she finished the regular season as the ACC's leading scorer with 38 points (17 goals, 4 assists). She scored in 11 of the 19 games as the Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament with an 11-7-2 record.
Meehan became the Eagles all-time leading goal scorer in October when BC defeated Pittsburgh, 2-1. Meehan scored the 13 minutes into the action to break the old record of 39 career goals held by Kristie Mewis '11. Meehan now has 45 career goals and 98 career points, second on the all-time list behind Mewis.
In May of 2015, Meehan earned her undergraduate degree in economics. She is currently working on her MBA.
Dowd, a native of Peabody, Mass., was second on the team in scoring as she compiled 12 goals, two assists for 26 points. The Eagles forward is a two-time All-ACC second team honoree.
A three-time ACC Honor Roll honoree, Dowd is now sixth in program history in goals scored with 32 and tenth in points with 73 total points. She finished fourth in the ACC in goals scored and sixth in points. Dowd scored a point in 12 of the 19 games this season. She had four game-winning goals to give her 10 in her career.
The speedy forward is a three-time Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement honoree. She is enrolled in the Robert J. Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences as a communications major.
