The Boston College women's basketball team fell to ACC foe Virginia, 61-50, on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Rookie Mariella Fasoula shot 7-for-10 from the floor and finished with a team-high 14 points and five boards.
- Virginia finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 19-12 lead after one quarter. BC had seven turnovers, three in the final two minutes which led the Cavaliers run. BC shot 50 percent from the floor thanks to Fasoula, who went 4-for-4 from the floor.
- The Eagles offense stalled in the first five minutes of the second quarter as they shot just 2-for-7 from the floor. The Cavs led, 27-17. With 1:14 to play, Alexa Coulombe completed a traditional three-point play and the Eagles were down 10. The Cavs took a 37-24 at the break. Again turnovers hurt the Eagles as they gave the ball away 14 times which resulted in 17 points.
- Virginia opened up the third quarter on an 8-2 run and the lead grew to 45-26. BC opened the quarter shooting just 16.7 percent from the floor. BC cut the lead to 15 points with 3:29 to play but a jumper by Mason got UVA back on track. The Eagles were down, 50-32, after three quarters.
- BC opened the fourth quarter on a 14-2 run sparked by a traditional three-point play by Kailey Edwards. The Eagles cut the lead to just six points. The teams exchanged baskets and after Fasoula hit a layup, BC called a timeout with 1:12 to play and down, 57-50., Edwards stole the ball on the inbounds but a jumper by Emilee Daley rolled out of the hoop and UVA grabbed the board. The Eagles could not close the gap in the final moments of the game.
