#BCEagles Newsstand: Taking the Quick Lane Bowl
December 28, 2016 | Football, Boston College Athletics
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – On Monday Dec. 26, the Boston College football team came out of the Quick Lane Bowl with a 36-30 win over Maryland. In a game that meant plenty for the Eagles, it also meant a lot to head coach Steve Addazio who earned the victory over good friend, Terrapins' head coach D.J. Durkin.
Boston College started strong as graduate quarterback Patrick Towles aimed to cap off his BC career with a win. Towles finished the game with two touchdowns, including one in the first half to sophomore tight end Tommy Sweeney, who played a key role in the offense all season.
Along with the offense, the Eagles also got plenty of help on the defensive side of the ball. The team put constant pressure on Terps' quarterback Perry Hills and forced multiple fumbles throughout the game. The defense was also able to put six points on the board as senior defensive end Kevin Kavalec recovered a fumble on the goal line in the second half.
Junior defensive end Harold Landry caused plenty of havoc for Maryland as he battled double coverage all game leading to open gaps for the rest of the D-line. Landry also added a great one-handed interception and a 1.5-sack performance that added to his record-setting season.
With the victory, the Eagles moved to 7-6 for the year, giving them the winning record they sought throughout the season and the first bowl victory for the program in nine years.
