The tight end recaps his first career touchdown against NC State
Saturday's win against NC State was by no means an easy task for the Boston College football team. It took a concerted team effort bring the Eagles their first Atlantic Coast Conference win since 2014 but individual accolades are still due.
Sophomore tight end Tommy Sweeney and the rest of the BC offense gave the Wolfpack defense a hard time on its home turf. Sweeney recorded a career-high 78 receiving yards on five receptions and his first career touchdown. His14-yard touchdown catch, a halfback-option pass from redshirt freshman Davon Jones, was followed by a successful catch on the two-point conversion.
The game was a battle, as BC trailed early on in the fourth quarter but Sweeney explained that the Eagles' confidence continued to build with each down.
"We were moving the ball a lot on offense and our defense played a phenomenal game," Sweeney said. "Definitely in the second half I think, when we were down 14-13, that last drive we clicked and moved right down."
The Eagles continue to prepare for one of their biggest tests when fifth-ranked Louisville makes the trip to Alumni Stadium on Saturda for a noon kickoff. The Cardinals will be led by Heisman-hopeful Lamar Jackson and the nation's No. 10 defense but the Eagles understand the mission at hand.
"They're a really good defense with a lot of good players," Sweeny said. "It doesn't matter they're a great team but we're pretty good too. We're kind of back, we think, so it's about going out and executing."
