BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Olivia Vaughn scored her fifth goal of the season in overtime. It was her first game-winning-goal of the season.
- Senior Andrea O'Brien scored the Eagles first goal. She now has three goals this season.
- Sophomore Gaby Carreiro had two assists in the match. She now has a team-high eight on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored first in the 17th minute of the match. Syracuse cleared the ball out to midfield. BC defender Allyson Swaby headed the ball to Samantha Hiatt. The rookie defender sent Gaby Carreiro down the line. Carreiro sent the ball to the far post where senior Andrea O'Brien one-timed the ball into the near post for a 1-0 lead. It was O'Brien's third goal of the season.
-The Eagles had a great chance with 15 left in the half when Hayley Dowd had a direct kick from just outside the box to the right of the Syracuse keeper Courtney Brosnan. Dowd's shot went off the back of the far post.
- The Orange's best chance to get on the board came in the seventh minute of the match. Off a high bouncing ball in the box, Eagles goalkeeper Alexis Bryant came out to get the ball but it took a crazy bounce on the wet field. Skilton one-timed the ball towards the BC open net but rookie defender Caitlyn Keenan cleared the ball off the goal line to keep the game tied at 0-0.
- Syracuse tied the game in the 46th minute of the game as a misplayed ball in the back resulted in a goal by Eva Gordan – BC 1, Cuse 1.
- The pace of the game changed and the teams went back-and-forth with chance after chance. BC's best came off of freshman Olivia Vaughn's shot from the half circle, which hit the post with less than five minutes to play.
-With a minute to play, O'Brien sent a long ball into the box but the Orange keeper kicked the ball wide of the goal. The Eagles sent the ball back into the box and a header by Swaby sailed over the crossbar.
-At the end of regulation, BC had 22 shots to just seven for Syracuse. The Eagles also had the edge in corners, 12-1.
- Freshman Olivia Vaughn ended the game on a great effort in the box. Lauren Berman connected with Gaby Carreiro on the left side of the field. Carreiro one-timed a ball into the box, right at the foot of Vaughn. The speedy forward shielded the ball and turned on the defender before sending a low show by the Syracuse goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan (11 saves).
