Junior forward Hayley Dowd tied the game in the xx minute. It was her fourth goal of the season.
Freshman Gaby Carreiro and first-year player Lauren Berman set up the goal with a nice combination down the left side.
HOW IT HAPPENED
St. John's scored a little over a minute into the match when BC fumbled a ball sent back to the defense. Sophomore Allyson Swaby went back to prevent a one-on-one situation on the keeper Alexandra Johnson when she tripped the St. John's forward. Rachel Daley scored the penalty kick to give the Red Storm the lead.
The Eagles offense heated up in the second half and they finally broke through in the 73rd minute. Hayley Dowd was the recipient of a great pass from Lauren Berman, who received a great cross from rookie Gaby Carreiro. Dowd was at the far post and Berman placed the ball on her foot, and Dowd calmly placed the ball into the far post for a 1-1 tie.
St. John's had a chance to win the game in the 85th minute when Daly broke into the box alone. Red-shirt freshman Alexis Bryant came out and smothered the ball to keep the game knotted at 1-1. A minute later, McKenzie Meehan was at the goal mouth, and St. John's keeper Diana Poulin got a hand on the shot to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Chritina Bellero was streaking down the left side alone at the start of the overtime period. Sammie Scaffidi sent the ball into the box and Bellero sent it into the back of the goal by a diving Bryant for a St. John's victory.
