HOW IT HAPPENED
• The buildup for the game-winning goal began in the back as Lauren Bernard sent the ball up the sideline to Gaby Carreiro. The freshman midfielder slipped by two defenders and sent the ball into the middle of the box. Junior Hayley Dowd took the ball down with her chest, and one a one-timer, chipped the ball into the near post for the lone goal of the game.
• Boston College had a strong first half as the Eagles held a 10-3 edge in shots.
• Red-shirt junior MacKenzie Meehan came close to giving the Eagles a lead when she turned and one-timed a shot that ripped off the left post from 10 yards out in the nine minutes into the match. Meehan led the offense with six shots.
• The second half Northeastern started to press on offense. In the 50th minute, Hannah Rosenblatt chipped a shot from the right of BC goalkeeper Alexandra Johnson. Johnson reached high and punched the ball over the goal to keep the game knotted at 0-0. Two minutes later, Taylor Caparo shot from 22 yards out that Johnson easily handled.
• After Dowd’s goal in the 66th minute, she almost put a second one in the net. She sent the ball towards the goal from outside the box; the shot hit the far post and bounced out. Lauren Berman could not turn on the rebound off the post and Northeastern cleared the ball.
• The Huskies best chance in the final minutes came in the 80th minute when Rosenblatt shot from eight yards out went wide of the goal.
